Borough of Paramus Municipal Court

The Paramus Hall Building near Route 17 North houses the Borough’s Municipal Court. Defendants may apply for a public defender in court, and the Judge will determine eligibility based on income and the charges. There is a $200 non-refundable Public Defender application fee, though the judge may waive this fee if he determines that it is an unreasonable burden on the applicant. Defendants who do not qualify for the public defender may consider the services of a private defense lawyer, such as this firm.

The court offers a Spanish interpreter during court sessions. For other languages, you must notify the court prior to your appearance. Paramus shares its municipal court with Maywood. Court sessions for violations under Maywood’s jurisdiction are held at 9:30 AM on the first and third Fridays of each month. The Hon. George O. Savino is the presiding Judge.

Paramus Municipal Court Charges

Paramus Municipal court handles an average of 50 disorderly persons offenses and 50 DUI/DWI and traffic violations weekly. Common charges include simple assault, theft, speeding, careless driving, driving without liability insurance, driving while suspended, shoplifting and minor drug offenses. The court also deals with postponements and arraignments.
