How Can I Reduce the Number of Points on my Driver’s License?

In NJ, there are basically two ways to reduce the number of points on your driver’s license. The first is to avoid receiving any moving violations or suspensions for a one-year period. For every 12 month period you go without a moving violation or license suspension, the Motor Vehicle Commission will automatically deduct 3 points from your license. The second way to reduce points on your license is to complete a defensive driver or driver improvement program approved by the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission. Upon completion of one of these courses, you may be eligible to have up to 3 points deducted from your license. However, you should note that there are restrictions on the number of times that you can complete these courses for points reductions.
